Position: General Manager (25 hours per week) 

This is a permanent salaried position. 

About Raven Spirit: Raven Spirit Dance is a Vancouver based contemporary Aboriginal dance company founded in 1999 and incorporated in 2005.  The artistic objectives of the company are the creation and production of new dance work, sharing this work with local and national communities and supporting the development of the senior, mid-career and emerging Aboriginal artists that work inside the sphere of the company.  

Job Description:
The GM position works with the Artisitic Director, staff and Board of Directors to develop and manage the administrative infrastructure within the company in order to best support the artistic vision, work and mandate of Raven Spirit Dance. 

Job Responsibilities:
Accounting, Financial Statements and ongoing reporting to funding bodies (local, provincial and federal) and the CADAC system
Staff, Board and office support including scheduling of meetings, general office admin and filing 
Creation and Production support including preparing contracts, booking of venue space, scheduling and communication/liaison with all parties
Grant-writing and final reporting Fundraising General website updating (wordpress platform) and social media
Attend all staff and board meetings as well as outreach and advocacy activities for the company

Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of related experience in an arts organization or the equivalent in post-secondary training in an arts management program + relevent job experience Excellent writing skills with experience in grant-writing
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Experience in developing and managing budgets 
Strong communication skills and a generosity of spirit
Comfortable working within a team environment as well as independently
Flexible and able to adapt to a changing environment throughout the programmed season

Hours per week:  25 hours per week (3 days per week in the office + meetings + additional time as needed during production periods)

Renumeration: to be discussed based on experience 

Start date: June 1st 2013

It is with great pride that Raven Spirit Dance congratulates Michelle Olson, our Founder and Artistic Director , as she receives the inaugural 2013 VIDF Choreographic Award.   The choreography prize is to be presented during the Vancouver International Dance Festival’s opening reception on Tuesday, March 5th. Raven Spirit Dance is performing an excerpt from our new work, Northern Journey, at this years festival.  You can find out more information here.

Just announced!  5Rhythms® Dance Classes with guest instructor Maryanne Wood!

Sundays March 3rd – April 14th 2013 in Vancouver from 4:15-6pm

Nourish yourself in this restorative and healing form of dance rooted in the 5Rhythms®. Our intention during this time phrase will be exploring movement as meditation.
We will investigate a series of maps for the body, mind, heart, and spirit transforming our lives into art.

Open to all levels of experience, no matter what your shape, size, age, or limitations.

Instructor Bio: Maryanne Wood has worked in the profession of dance and theatre in several countries for over 35 years, dancing and teaching ten of her years in NYC.
An accredited  5Rhythms® teacher she has worked extensively with Gabrielle Roth and this body of work.  Maryanne has recently moved from Nelson where she has been
teaching while being deeply rooted in nature and other spiritual practices.

Inspired by the land and the culture of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in people of the Yukon, Northern Journey  explores the Porcupine caribou herd and their long journey back to  their calving grounds as well as dives deep into the landscape of ice,  water and mountains that inspire and infuse the Tr’ondëk  Hwëch’in culture. Choreographer Michelle Olson communicates her passion  for the North and the stories that emanate from its land through her  choreography.

& origins of Pow-Wow styles and intertwine it with building muscle & stamina while

Bio & Description
Nyla Carpentier has 25 years experience of Pow-Wow dancing and will guide each class
with a natural flow of warm up, pow-wow cardio then cool down, & will build
upon pow-wow basics, themes and history as well as the origins of different dance
styles. We will build towards the final class where all participants can dance
for at least 6 songs with no stopping, having discovered their own style of movement
and fitness through Pow-Wow.

Hello everyone! We are back in the city after an amazing summer of touring Gathering
Light to Edmonton, Ottawa and the Yukon as well as sharing it with Vancouver audiences
during the launch of our annual fundraiser in North Vancouver with our new partners
at Presentation House Theatre! Thank-you once again to everyone who came out to support us!

We hope that you all have had a great summer too and now as we head into September
we are excited to share with you our upcoming performances and dance classes happening
in Vancouver.

We’ll be in touch again soon with more news about our upcoming Fall season and some
exciting projects on the horizon.

Upcoming Performances:

Saturday September 15th at 2pm at the Dance Centre Open House!

A mixed program of contemporary Aboriginal dance with 3 beautiful pieces from
choreographers, Michelle Olson & Floyd Favel (Frost Exploding Trees Moon), Starr Muranko
(before7after)and Margaret Grenier (Spirit Transforming).

Performance will be 1 hour in length followed by an artist Q&A hosted by Diane Roberts
(Artistic Director or urbanink). All activities at the Dance Centre that day (including
our show) are open to the general public and FREE! Hope to see you there – more

Sunday September 30th – 12pm to 4pm Trolley Dances on the Northshore!

We are excited to be a part of this new initiative with the North Vancouver Community
Arts Council where Raven Spirit will be sharing a site-specific adaptation of Frost
Exploding Trees Moon with traditional storytelling and live singing with Bob Baker
of the Squamish Nation who will be joining Michelle for this very special
collaboration.

September 23rd – December 9th (Sundays) FREE!
We are so excited to be one of the artists-in-residence at the Roundhouse Community
Arts Centre in downtown Vancouver this Fall! From the Fall Equinox to the Winter
Solstice come dance with Raven Spirit Dance and instructors Michelle Olson & Starr
Muranko who will be teaching a contemporary Aboriginal dance class for dancers of
all levels of experience (including those trying out a class for the first time!)
Class description: We will explore movement grounded in intuition and imagination,
integrating First Nations dance and song with creative, open-ended explorations.
As we move towards the Winter Solstice, the presence of the dark brings us closer
to the light within.We will explore these themes through story and movement.

The classes will run from September 23rd – December 9th on Sundays from 2:30-4pm in the dance studio at the Roundhouse and will include the option of working together
towards a public sharing of our work-in-progress during the December Solstice
celebrations.

Classes are FREE to the public and you can find out more information and pre-register

Register early as class size is limited. No class on October 7th and November 11th.

Saturday November 24th at Creekside Community Centre 12:15-1:45pm Only $5!

Dance Allsorts workshop with Raven Spirit Dance & the Dancers of Damelahamid as
